The enduring art of opera
For over 400 years, opera has been passed on to us with an ever-renewed passion. The question of sustainability that now occupies our societies is inherent in our operatic professions. We are the custodians of know-how, techniques, research methods, transmission and interpretation, bequeathed to each new generation. This solid framework gives artists free rein to explore new aesthetics and new narratives. The alliance between creative and technical genius will be our strength in meeting the demands of the ecological transition.
Rethinking our habits
Sustainable development is one of the values upheld by Opéra national de Lorraine. For several seasons now, this reflection has been carried out in partnership with the teams, guest artists and the many public and private partners who contribute to the Opera's activities. It has resulted in concrete actions in all areas of our sector: energy sobriety, installation of LED lighting, systematic recycling of sets, props and costumes, environmentally-friendly specifications for public procurement contracts, encouraging guest artists to reduce the number of trips they make, sorting, recycling and reducing waste, seeking out bio-sourced products and manufacturing materials or those that have an impact on health and the environment, setting up the sustainable workshop collective to rethink our habits, etc.
Working alongside you
Not only are you the first to witness our commitment to the ecological transition, but you are also the driving force behind this change. We are grateful for the efforts you make to support our approach. We have rethought the way we do things for you. Among other things, the way we welcome the public has been modified to reduce temperature changes in the building and energy consumption; public tours are conducted in service lights; the quantities of printed programmes and season brochures have been drastically reduced; and our web service provider has begun migrating the website to a more environmentally-friendly server. And like you, when the situation allows it, we favour soft mobility.
The Opera is a factory of imagination. The hopes of an ecological revival are fuelling this season's artistic programming and will contribute to our common reflection.
This adventure has only just begun. And we are delighted to be sharing it with you.
