Marta Gardolińska

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Marta Gardolińska as musical director of the Opéra national de Lorraine.

On the proposal of Matthieu Dussouillez, general and artistic director, and in full agreement with the Board of Directors of the Opéra national de Lorraine chaired by Bertrand Masson, Culture Assistant for the City of Nancy, Marta Gardolińska will take up her full duties as of the 2021-2022 season for a period of three years.
As part of her duties as musical director, she will conduct concerts with the Orchestra of the Opéra national de Lorraine as well as one or two lyrical productions per season with an annual rhythm of about 10 to 12 weeks.

Marta Gardolińska, a talent unanimously hailed during the French premiere of Der Traumgörge by Zemlinsky in Nancy last October and whose already well-established career has recently taken on a new dimension, wishes to contribute with teams to the influence and excellence of the Opéra national de Lorraine.

Her appointment marks a new stage in the life of the Opéra national de Lorraine and its Orchestra, fully in line with the development of the artistic and cultural project launched by Matthieu Dussouillez since June 2019.

This new and long-term partnership will focus in particular on the development of a journey through musical Europe in the time of Art Nouveau, the enhancement of the intimate and historical link between Nancy and Poland through the development of the Polish repertoire as well as the development of the Nancy - Citizen Opera project, aimed at excellence for the benefit of all.

Marta Gardolińska will return to the Opéra national de Lorraine for the «Dream or Destiny» concert broadcast on February 4 and 5 by Radio France alongside David Guerrier and Alexander Melnikov (broadcast on Fance Musique February 18 at 8 p.m.).

“I am thrilled to start an artistic journey together with the whole team of the Opéra national de Lorraine in Nancy. Our relationship started in the toughest of times - putting together an originally huge, forgotten post-romantic opera during a pandemic was a real challenge. We pulled through and had a great result thanks to joint commitment and effort and this gives me the best of hopes for the future.
I was impressed with the musicality and professionalism of the Orchestra. From the very beginning I had the feeling that we can always focus on what is the most important - music - and that I can count on the engagement and creativity of the musicians.
I quickly felt at home both in the house and in the beautiful city of Nancy. It fills me with pride that I will get to shape the cultural life of a place that was strongly shaped by a former Polish king - Stanisław Leszczyński. I hope to give the best possible representation of Polish culture here in Nancy.
I am also very much looking forward to working closely with Matthieu Dussouillez. We have very similar opinions on art and its purpose and hope to offer a varied and exciting repertoire to the public in Nancy, as well as working with the community to involve them actively in the life of the theatre.”
