Matthieu Dussouillez  General Director of the Opéra national de Lorraine

Born in 1985, Matthieu Dussouillez studied percussion and tuba and participated in professional artistic projects as a musician and teacher. At the same time, he joined the ICN Business School in Nancy from which he graduated with a Master's degree in management, specialising in finance and management control.

In 2009, he joined the Opéra de Dijon where he successively held positions in production and administration before becoming the institution's deputy general director. Since 2014, he has been working with Laurent Joyeux to design the opera, music and choreography seasons, helping to obtain the label of national interest lyric theatre in 2018.

Appointed in 2019 as General Director of the Opéra national de Lorraine, he will implement a European project from 2020 onwards, structured by strong artistic lines:

  • to bring out and support a new generation of international artists, capable, in a rapidly changing world, of thinking about the opera of tomorrow
  • to develop a lyrical and symphonic programme that resonates with musical Europe and the Art Nouveau style which, at the beginning of the 20th century, left its mark on the architecture of Nancy
  • to defend creation, contemporary music and the rediscovery of rare works
  • pay particular attention to the re-reading of emblematic works of the repertoire
  • to build an opera that is rooted in the region, forward-looking, open to social issues, committed to equality, diversity and the ecological transition

In 2020, he created the Nancy Opera Xperience (NOX), a laboratory for lyrical creation which aims to imagine new forms by working with artists over the long term, in connection with the city and the territory.
